Complex components. Systematically refined.

Processes and vertical integration

Surface finishing is more than a single painting process.

The component, the coating–substrate combination, its geometry and the quantity determine which processes and what level of vertical integration are required. This way, every step from preparation to approval fits together seamlessly.

FMO Surface Lab

Your project enquiry to FMO Surface.

Describe your component, its requirements and the project status – whether it is an initial idea, a specific requirement or the transfer of an existing process. The FMO Surface Lab assesses your task from a technical perspective and agrees the next steps and the quotation with you.

Careers at FMO Surface

Careers and apprenticeships at FMO Surface.

Our roles range from spray painting, mechatronics and electrical engineering to warehousing, inspection, packaging and assembly. We also train process mechanics for coating technology and media technologists for screen printing. As all roles are based in Lemgo, good German language skills are required.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about working with us and finishing technical plastic components

Answers on services and processes, the FMO Surface Lab, and careers and applications.

Services and processes

Which components does FMO Surface work on?

FMO Surface finishes technical plastic and injection-moulded components. Whether a component is suitable depends on factors such as material, geometry, quality of the parts as supplied, function, surface requirements and planned quantities.

Which services and processes does FMO Surface offer?

Our range covers robotic and manual sanding, masking, a variety of painting processes, pad, screen and digital printing, laser marking/day-night design, as well as assembly, sub-assembly manufacturing and quality assurance.

Can several processes be combined into one process route?

Yes. FMO Surface combines pre-treatment, painting, printing or laser marking, assembly and quality assurance into one coordinated process route, so that each production step and the required level of vertical integration are tailored to the component.

Does the process need to be decided in advance?

No. The right process depends on material, geometry, function, target surface finish, quality requirements and production volume. The appropriate combination of processes is defined for each project.

FMO Surface Lab and project workflow

What is the FMO Surface Lab?

The FMO Surface Lab is our cross-functional team for customer enquiries and technical project requirements. It assesses the component, the finishing objective and the project status, involves the relevant departments and supports the coordination process through to a production-ready order.

When should the FMO Surface Lab be involved?

It is worth getting in touch as early as the initial idea. The earlier material, geometry, visible and functional surfaces and quality requirements are considered together, the more precisely a suitable process route can be developed.

What information helps with a project enquiry?

Useful details include the part designation, application, material, planned quantities, project status and surface requirements. Drawings, photos, specifications or existing samples make the assessment easier. The FMO Surface Lab will clarify any missing information with you.

How does an enquiry become a production-ready order?

Following the technical assessment, we agree on open points, suitable processes, the level of vertical integration, sampling, inspection requirements and the next project steps. On this basis, the transfer of an existing process can also be assessed and supported through to reproducible series production.

How are sampling and quality assurance taken into account?

The planned process route is sampled using real components and checked against the agreed requirements. Inspection characteristics, master and boundary samples and relevant process parameters can then serve as the basis for approval and series production.

Careers and applications

Which roles and apprenticeships does FMO Surface offer?

Roles include spray painting, mechatronics and electrical engineering, warehousing and logistics, as well as inspection, packaging and assembly. Apprenticeships are offered as a process mechanic for coating technology and as a media technologist for screen printing. Good German language skills are required.
